Alphabe Thursday, Aging gracefully

Welcome to a whole new round of Alphabe Thursday hostessed by Jenny at jennymatlock.blogspot.com
It is just starting, so feel free to join in and be inspired to write about a new letter of the alphabet every week.

This weeks letter is A and my topic is Aging Gracefully....Ok, lets get down to business here....I don't know if anything is graceful about the way I am aging. What does it mean? Is it acceptance? Is it compliance? Does it mean that I should put away my bikini underwear and accept that from now on I will only wear granny panties?

Should I cut my hair because I am past the age where long hair is flattering? Should I shop in the "set" department of Macy's and try to dress my age?

I think not....With all sincerity I promise you there will be no "too short" cut offs and blue eyeshadow and I still will comport myself with some sense of style.

I will embrace my wrinkles, especially the ones from smiling. I have earned them, they are mine, uniquely me. I still will play hide and seek with the kids outside on a summer night and run to touch the tree and be free for all I am worth. I will make snow angels and sled down a hill with the best of them, broken hips and all that be darned.

I have to age, I am aging, but why do I have to do it gracefully....Can I just go down in a blaze of fire if I choose to? Forget the pearls and white hair, I want to be a real character. If the spirit moves me, I want to sing full volume in a crowded place. I want to wear orange and lots of jewelry. I want to feel like I did when I was a kid, that anything is possible and an adventure is just around the corner..Because in my heart, I really think it is and I am going to find it. Gracefully? I have never been graceful and I dont intend to start now.........

I just love this! I am a grandma five times over and wear exactly what I wore when my kids were young, jeans, t-shirts and cowboy boots. I am going into old ladyhood, screaming and fighting all the way!!!!!

what a great attitude! Age is mostly in the mind, right?

I think you sound too fun to be sitting around in a knit pantsuit at a home somewhere.

It sounds like you are aging "gratefully". . .grateful for the experiences you have had, even the ones that caused the wrinkles and grateful for all the things you have yet to experience!

Well, I'm looking at your picture with those two cute guys...one with a stopper in his mouth, and I'm wondering...'how old ARE you?' You are certainly Wise for a Gal your AGE....not to fret over Graceful Ageing.

The one thing I am NOT going to do is get my hair cut really short and then go to the "beauty shop" once a week to get it set! Joni

Oh me too, I'm keeping my hair long. Old and happy, or will I just be looking like an old hippy? Either way, loved your outlook.

We are only as old as we feel and act. I'm going to stay 25 forever. Old enough to vote and legally drink, old enough to get a college degree, but not old enough to be set in my ways. You have treated this A beautifully.

I think I'm going to check out this challenge. Your stories are always so colorful and fun.

Bravo!! The older one gets, I think the less they have to conform to what others think or believe, ha, ha.

You go girl! I love the way you embrace the philosophy that age doesn't mean 'old'!

This was a wonderful post and a wonderful way to live.

I'm glad you shared this on Alphabe-Thursday.

You reminded me of something I've forgotten a bit lately.

Go for it! The best way to approach aging is one's own way - with one's own style. Grab it and go and have fun. I look at my mum - an real original - and know that life is too short to worry about aging gracefully. 'Barge in' I say!

and very well said indeed. good for you. I feel the same :)

You go girl - a flame is how we all should live. I love pearls and have had white hair all my life. The undies were hilarious - after breaking my hip and having hip replacement they gently suggested than I wear "grannie" underwear till everything healed. I laughed and informed them that I would not be wearing any underwear till I heeled. Poor thing I thought I was going to have to revive her. I say live life with all the youth you can. Wrinkles are earned. Hopefully from laughter.
