Quilt done, lettuce and funky chickens.....

The cowboy quilt is done....Can I hear a big Yee Haw? I am glad, because it is one more thing to check off the list as we get nearer to our camping deadline...Today we almost had a huge accident...We had to jack the trailer way up on both sides to flip the axle back into a normal position. The people who had it before had it flipped so the trailer sat really high up in the air so they had clearance for hunting roads....We had four heavy duty jacks going and Don was lowering one side and the trailer on one side fell off the jacks and fell sideways....I screamed and we both ran...what do you do? try to catch the thing? What saved the side of the garage and my new car and the trailer was the trailer step....it went against the concrete and stopped the whole thing.....But now all is well and the adrenaline rush is over and I didn't wet my pants so life is good.

Isn't it cute? I used a thrifted yellow gingham sheet for the backing...the colors are all soft and so is the sheet from wear......
Here is the graphic I am going to paint on the side of the trailer.....

I also have the garden all planted....Peas, green beans, carrots, radishes, beets and pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers, basil and zucchinis....I have planted no annual flowers except for cosmos...We also planted two plum trees, raspberries and three lilacs...the plan is to add to the trees and perennials every year. Oh and I cant forget the lettuce that will taste like chocolate according to Andrew our resident lettuce expert...We weren't sure it was going to survive the transplanting from peat pots, but it did and it is growing...I know because he gives a progress report at least three times a day....Here is a picture....

I had to post this because he must have taken it on my camera. He is so fascinated by the whole garden. So cute!

I joined the Potholder Pass round three and worked on and finished my potholders too....They are called the Funky Chickens....I really had fun with them.

My secret partner that I am sewing for has no color preference, just wanted chickens so I let loose in the color department...I also used my embroidery machine to do the chickens and rooster in the centers....I hadn't used it in a while and had to relearn, but once I got going it was fun...I just did it in between the quilting...

I think they are bright and cheerful....Tonight I am going to tackle the BEAST....What beast you ask? The trailers sofa/ bed cushion....I am going to sew a new cover for it...I figure I will bribe myself by working on things I like to work on in between...like an oven mitt to go with the chickens....wish me luck.

Whew...glad nobody got hurt when the trailer was tipping! Love your quilt and the potholders, too. You are planting such a nice garden and then going camping...hope you have someone to water the garden while you are gone!

I absolutely love that quilt. What a find those hankies were and the quilting looks great. The little cowboy will look awesome on the trailer.

Hi Melinda!
First of all, your quilt is absolutely stunning! It's fun, colorful and those vintage cowboy images?! LOVE them! I have never really loved a quilt as much as this before!
I am also SO impressed that you are tackling a trailer redo! My Mom has big plans to do the same. Please do post more pictures if you want, I would love to see what you have done with it (after you get in the proper position that is - sorry about the mishap!).
Beautiful work, Kristin xo

I'm so glad no one got hurt Melinda, and that the camper survived after all the work you've put into it! I LOVE your quilt, and those pot holders are the cutest I've seen! Great job, can't wait for more camper pics!

YEE HAW, what a post. You really had an interesting day, Melinda. Glad you weren't hurt by the trailer. And glad nothing else was, either. Would hate to have to explain that one to the insurance company.

That quilt is adorable. I'm so in awe of your sewing skills. I'd still be working on that quilt this time next year. Or I'd probably be still cutting it out. Those pot holders are just as adorable as the quilt. You are so so talented, especially when it comes to a sewing machine and fabric.

I KNEW your lettuce would be OK. You can start cutting it, now. Just cut off the tops and more will grow back. In fact, the more you cut, the more it grows. At least until it bolts, at which time it won't be any good to eat.

I'm glad you guys didn't get squashed by the trailer! I probably would've wet my pants *L*

YeeHaw!!

I would have run screaming too. We actually had a car try to tip over when we were jacking it up to change a tire a lifetime ago. Scary. Glad it all worked out OK for you.

Fun and bright potholders.

Hi Melinda

Yes, I have been AWOL. for one reason or another, of late. It didn't help being away for 10 days. I sure did have a nice trip, though. Now I'm home and will hopefully get back in my routine of reading the blogs I so enjoy.

I love your chicken pot holders! I have a thing for chickens and, as you know, I love bright colors. A perfect combination as far as I am concerned.

Hugs,
Tamerie

The quilt turned out so nice. It will be perfect in your new/old trailer. I love the design you are putting on the outside. It will be very retro.

What great potholders you are making for your partner. Boy you have been busy.

Good luck with sofa/bed cushion cover.

Melinda! You two be careful!!! We don't want you flattened by trailer! :O

I love your quilt! It's fabulous! You have chocolate lettuce? I wish I had chocolate flavored lettuce! Then I would definitely lose some weight! I haven't even planted anything since we just had snow flurries again last week, waiting for spring to arrive.

I enjoyed reading about Gunne sax dresses. I graduated from high school in one. I also loved your trailer fix up. I bet we are about the same age. When I was in high school, the good looking guys were called hunks, and the pretty girls were the foxes. P.S. I graduated in 1975.
